There's no doubt that hardwood flooring is one of the most desired materials by homeowners planning to remodel their residences. Not only is it available in a diverse selection of styles and ‘looks' that will add warmth and beauty to your home, it also is an excellent long-term investment that will increase the home's market value as well.
Most realtors will tell you that a home with hardwood floors will generally sell faster and for a higher price. Moreover, you can inexpensively refinish solid hardwood flooring several times, which adds to the appeal and long life of these floors. There are solid hardwood floors that were installed more than 100 years ago, that are still in good condition today.
When we discuss solid hardwood flooring, we're generally thinking about familiar red oak strip flooring that is 3/4" thick by 2-1/4" wide. However, today's solid hardwood flooring can also be obtained in widths of 3” to 6” or more, usually referred to as ‘plank' floors. Pre-finished solid hardwood flooring is also available in thicknesses between 5/16” to ¾” and in random lengths between 12” and 84” long.
The most common species of wood used for hardwood flooring are red oak; white oak and maple. However, there are many other domestic and exotic species of hardwood available too. Manufacturers also offer engineered hardwood flooring that has benefits that permit its installation in moisture-prone locations, but this hardwood cannot be sanded down and refinished as often as solid hardwood. Solid hardwood can be refinished many times, thereby extending its good looks and long useable lifespan. Solid Pre-finished hardwood flooring is not difficult to install, and if you use flooring where the finish has been applied at the factory and has already been cured, you will be able to bring your furniture back into the room as soon as the flooring installation has been completed.
